Channel 2 News to cease to report primaries exit polls

The Second Broadcasting Authority asked channels not to release poll results before the polls close in the upcoming elections.

Sources inform ''Globes'' that Channel 2 News CEO Avi Weiss has decided that the company will no longer report primaries polls. He cited a professional recommendation by several polling and research firms because of polling inaccuracies.

Until now, Channel 2 News and other news stations and media published primaries poll data, including polls in the Kadima party primaries mid-September, which were won by Minister of Foreign Affairs Tzipi Livni. The decision will apply to primaries held by any party.

Israel will hold general Knesset elections in February. The issue of the conduct of the news programs of the two commercial channels, Channel 2 and Channel 10, was raised at a meeting of the Second Television and Radio Broadcasting Authority. Second Broadcasting Authority chairwoman Nurit Davosh wrote to Channel 2 News chairman Yehuda Lancry and Channel 10 News chairwoman Avital Avtubi asking them to publish election polls only after the polling stations close. The boards of both news stations are expected to discuss the issue soon and make a final decision on the matter.
