Court orders woman to pay man for stolen sperm

The Tel Aviv Magistrates Court ruled that a woman who became pregnant despite telling a young man she was barren must pay him NIS 110,000 compensation.

In a precedent setting ruling in Israel, the Tel Aviv Magistrates Court last week ordered a woman who had stolen sperm from a man to compensate him, "Yediot Ahronot" report this morning.

The court heard that the woman, a divorcee, had told a young man that she was barren and consequently he did not use a contraceptive. She became pregnant and the court ruled that the woman had deceived her lover and was therefore bound to pay him NIS 110,000 compensation.

The ruling said, "The fact that the woman had sexual relations without using contraception and without compelling the young man to use a contraceptive tells us that she knew there was a chance she would become pregnant. The woman did not discount the likelihood of becoming pregnant and perhaps even performed the sexual act knowing that the birth of a child was what would happen."
