Apart from the Israel Corporation, no other investor received the same benefits.
Immediately prior to web-posting today (Wednesday), the ministerial committee for legislative affairs is about to decide on the government’s position regarding MK Haim Dayan’s private member’s bill calling for the repeal of the Israel Corporation Law.
Dayan’s bill in effect seeks the annulment of the tax benefits accorded to the late Shoul Eisenberg, under a special law enacted by the Knesset in 1969, in relation to foreign investors conducting most of their operations abroad. Apart from the Israel Corporation, no other investor received the same benefits.
The benefits are valid for 35 years, and Dayan seeks to have them annulled for the remaining effective 7 years. In an explanatory preface, Dayan points out that the law is unfair and discriminates against other companies.
