Aish Hatorah allowed to use underground space in Old City

1,600 sq.m. of main space and 700 sq.m. of service space will be added to Aish Hatorah’s yeshiva opposite the Western Wall.

The Jerusalem District Planning and Building Board has approved for deposit a plan by Jewish educational organization Aish Hatorah to use underground space at its building in the Old City of Jerusalem for an educational institute and visitors center.

Aish Hatorah owns property opposite the Western Wall, part of which it uses for a yeshiva (house of Jewish learning). The rest of the space is slated for future planning. Aish Hatorah’s application to rezone this space for its yeshiva was rejected, and will remain slated for future planning.

The existing underground space range from eight meters to twenty meters high, which will be divided into four floors, adding 1,600 sq.m. of main space and 700 sq.m. of service space to the yeshiva, which be used for an auditorium, lecture halls, classrooms, displays, a multi-purpose hall, and administrative offices.
