Merkavim Metal Works’ production capacity is 60-100 buses a year.
Merkavim Metal Works Ltd. yesterday unveiled its armored bus at the Milipol Paris 2005 international exhibition of internal state security, police equipment, industrial site security and civil defense.
The $400,000 armored bus was designed and manufactured in cooperation with and under the supervision of the Ministry of Defense. The bus’s strong defenses comprises panels capable of withstanding light arms, grenades, and roadside bombs.
Merkavim CEO Micha Mixner said that, following the wave of terrorist attacks throughout the West in recent years, and the wave of riots in France and other Western European countries, and in view of the fact that few companies in the world manufacture armored buses, Merkavim’s management expects to sell dozens of buses during 2006. He said the factory’s production capacity was 60-100 buses a year.
