Israel signs regional agreement on TV, digital radio

The frequencies agreement is part of the Ministry of Communications’ work with the International Telecommunication Union.

Israel, Egypt, Jordan, and Cyprus have signed a regional agreement to coordinate television and digital radio frequencies. The Ministry of Communications said the agreement was intended to coordinate use of these frequencies, thereby avoiding disturbances in the systems of Israeli wireless operators.

The agreement is part of the Ministry of Communications’ work with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) for regional use of television and digital radio frequencies.

Ministry of Communications director general Avi Balashnikov said the importance of the agreement was that for the first time, the ministry had reached an agreement of this kind on such a scale with Israel’s neighbors. The ministry added that Syria opposed the agreement, without citing reasons, and that Israel had asked the ITU for help in this matter.
