Alrosa, diamond manufacturers agree on supply to Israel

Russian diamond company Alrosa will sell 60% of its rough production directly to regular customers.

The Israel Diamond Manufacturers' Association (IsDMA) and Alrosa have reached agreement concerning the direct supply of rough diamonds to Israel by Alrosa.

Alrosa president Alexander Nichiporuk, who was IsDMA's guest at its 60th anniversary celebration in Tel Aviv last week, concluded a working meeting of the two organizations by announcing that due to the close relationship that had developed between Alrosa and the Israel diamond industry, his company would begin to supply rough diamonds directly to Israel.

According to the company, in the first stage Alrosa will hold tenders through its representative office in Ramat Gan. At a later stage the company will create a list of clients who will be able to purchase rough diamonds directly from Alrosa. This procedure is in keeping with Alrosa's strategic decision to sell 60% of its rough production directly to regular customers.

The agreement was concluded at a meeting that took place at the Ramat Gan diamond center on December 22.

"Rapaport News" reported yesterday that Nichiporuk expressed interest in expanding Alrosa’s offices to the new Israel Diamond Exchange building, which is currently being planned.

The Israeli delegation was led by IsDMA president Moti Ganz, and included IsDMA deputy president David de Toledo, Israel Diamond Institute chairman Simcha Lustig, IsDMA vice president Shlomo Yuval, Israel Diamond Controller Shmuel Mordechai, IsDMA managing director Motti Besser and IsDMA deputy managing director Shmuel Shacham. The Russian delegation was led by Nichiporuk, and included Alrosa vice presidents Sergey Oulin and Yuri Dudenkov, Maxim Shkadov, who is the general director of diamond polishing company Kristall Smolensk and Alrosa representative in Israel Alexey Ivanov.
