Solel to supply solar AC system for Beit Shemesh school

The system will be operated entirely by solar "green and clean" energy and will air-condition the entire school.

Solel Solar Systems Ltd. will construct an advanced solar system for a school with 500 pupils located in Beit Shemesh, Israel.

The system, which will be operated entirely by solar green and clean energy, will air-condition the entire school, including all classrooms and neighboring halls and rooms. The system will operate throughout the entire year, constantly cooling in summer and heating in winter.

This project, which is among the first of its kind in the world in the educational sector, is co-financed by the Ministry of National Infrastructures and Ministry of Education.

Solel's cooling system consists of high efficiency, high temperature flat solar collectors that enable the implementation of various solar applications such as solar air-conditioning, industrial solar heat, large scale water heating (public swimming pools etc.) and water desalination.

Solel develops and manufactures diversified solar energy systems, distributed power options, and solar power plants for the production of clean electricity based on a unique technology that allows for production of clean electricity at high temperatures of up to 400 degrees Celsius.

Solel Solar Systems CEO Avi Brenmiller said, "We are extremely encouraged by the ministries and municipality's decision to support and opt in favor of a solar solution rather than a conventional one. We hope this is the first step in a trend to change over to green and clean energy, which is ecologically and environmentally friendly, and which serves to confirm our company's vision of reaching widespread distribution in the near future."

In November 2005, Solel constructed a large-scale water heating application in Barcelona, Spain, to heat a swimming pool in a tennis club. Solel supplied an entire solar field kit, including a control and operating unit, ready-made for a fast, simple and a high quality installation. The official inauguration ceremony is expected in mid-January.

In January 2005, Solel's team will be attending a series of meetings with a number of large Spanish developers to expand its activities in the construction of 50 megawatt (MW) solar power plants, where Solel has the advantage of proven SEGS technology. Solel is represented in Spain through Pasch Y Cia.

Solel was founded in 1992 by a group of engineers and scientists from pioneering solar energy company Luz. Solel employs approximately 90 people in its R&D and production plant located in Beit Shemesh. Recently, Solel's R&D team announced a new and advanced generation of its parabolic trough technology -- the SOLEL#6 upgraded efficiency version.

Solel's parabolic trough thermal technology has proven itself over the last twenty years with the continuous production of 350MW utility scale power at the SEGS solar field in California's Mojave desert, which supplies clean electricity to more than half a million inhabitants. The company stated that these power plants save about 2 million barrels of oil per year.
