Google continues as the leading website in Israel, with a weekly reach rate of 73.3%, compared with 66.4% in June 2005, according to a TNS/Teleseker Internet Monitor (TIM) survey in December 2005. The survey examined leading websites among Internet users aged 13 and above. According to the survey, Israel has 3.6 million Internet surfers aged 13 and above, compared with 3.4 million in the previous survey.
Walla! was in second place, with a weekly reach rate of 61.2%, compared with 57.3% in June 2005. Ynet had an reach rate of 44.3%, a negligible increase, compared with its 44.1% weekly reach rate in the previous survey. MSN Israel, MSN and Hotmail were collectively in fourth place, with an reach rate of 37.4%, compared with 35.8% in the previous survey. Nana was in fifth place, with an reach rate of 29.6%, compared with 30.6% in the previous survey
The TIM survey is conducted among a nationwide representative sample of 1,700 of Israeli Jewish Internet users aged 13 and above. To examine websites’ reach rates, the survey uses the recall method used in surveys of other media use (newspapers, radio, etc.), in which respondents are asked to independently state when was the last time he or she visited the websites mentioned. The survey’s data reflect the proportion of respondents who reported visiting each site at least once during the week when the survey was conducted. The data do not reflect the number of clicks or hits at a particular site, but is an estimate of reach (the proportion of persons who visited a website at least once during the week preceding the survey).
The TIM survey also found that the group of websites belonging to the “Ha’aretz” group (Ha’aretz, Walla!, TheMarker/A Online) had the highest net reach rate (excluding overlaps) among website groups, with weekly reach rates of 73.3%, compared with 66.2% in the previous survey. The MSN group (MSN Israel, MSN, Hotmail, Hotmail Israel, Start, P1000, MSN Messenger, Tipo, and Netex) is in second place, with weekly reach rates of 61.2%, compared with 58.9% in the previous story.
