Sprint Nextel Corp. and Amdocs (NYSE: DOX) have reached a preliminary agreement to provide a single billing and customer care platform for Sprint Nextel's 46.5 million wireless subscribers.
The proposed agreement is for an eight-year period.
Sprint Nextel CIO Dick LeFave said, "After a thorough evaluation process, we are in the final stages of setting the framework for an agreement with Amdocs to provide a single billing platform for Sprint Nextel. We have selected Amdocs to support Sprint Nextel because of its extensive experience in the industry and their ability to adapt to our customers' changing needs and the company's growing portfolio of products and services."
The new Amdocs' platform will provide Sprint Nextel customer care representatives real-time access to account information for all subscribers on both the Nationwide Sprint PCS Network and the National Nextel Network.
Sprint Nextel expects to begin converting customers to one platform in 2006. Conversion to the Amdocs platform will commence once Sprint Nextel and Amdocs enter into a definitive service agreement. The conversion is expected to be completed in 2007.
Before merging with Sprint, Nextel Communications deployed Amdocs for its billing and customer care system in 2000, and recently achieved an industry-leading two-day billing cycle.
Sprint has been using Convergys products for its customer care and billing services since 1996. "Sprint has had a long-standing and successful relationship with Convergys and we now look to their expertise during this time of transition," LeFave said.
