Senior public sector salaries to rise 5.81%

The pay hike is a result of Attorney General’s decision to end the administrative order freezing salaries since 2001.

Salaries for senior civil servants will be raised by 5.81% beginning with January 2006 paychecks, as a result of Attorney General Menachem (Meni) Mazuz’s decision to end the administrative order freezing salaries and allowance since 2001.

Gross salaries will rise by at least NIS 1,716 a month, depending on the senior civil servants’ salaries. There are approximately 2,000 senior civil servants (ministers, MKs, ministry director generals and their associates), whose salaries are revised on the basis of changes in the average national salary.

In the public sector as whole, including government agencies and companies, there is a second circle of senior managers whose salaries are linked to senior civil servants’ salaries. A third circle of senior manages includes tens of thousands of persons, including private sector employees, whose salaries will also be augmented on the basis of a link to senior civil servants’ salaries.

The total cost of the pay hikes for senior officials in all three sectors is estimated at several billion shekels a month.
