Siano Mobile Silicon to raise $22m in 2nd round

The company raised $10 million in its first round six months ago.

Israeli start-up Siano Mobile Silicon is currently beginning its second financing round, in which it aims to raise $22 million. Both previous and new investors are expected to participate in the round. In its first round six months ago, the company raised $10 million from venture capital funds Jerusalem Venture Partners, Walden Israel, and Star Ventures. Siano Mobile Silicon supplies chips for television broadcasts to mobile communications devices.

Siano Mobile Silicon’s chips are designed for use in satellite navigation devices, wireless telephones, handheld computers, and any mobile device able to receive mobile television broadcasts. The company’s chips accommodate TV broadcasts on a number of standards. These include digital video broadcasting -- terrestrial (DVB-T) for broadcasting through antennas, digital video broadcasting -- handheld (DVB-H) for mobile devices like telephones and handheld computers, terrestrial -- digital multimedia broadcasting (T-DMB) for multimedia digital broadcasts through antennas, digital audio broadcasting (DAB), and enhanced packet mode DAB.

Siano Mobile Silicon recently signed a cooperation agreement with NDS Group (Nasdaq: NNDS) for development and marketing of a comprehensive solutions for mobile digital TV devices.
