When Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) announced the establishment of Google Israel two weeks ago, it also said it would shortly launch a Hebrew-language version of Google news. That announcement has now been fulfilled.
The Beta version of the new service, went on air yesterday. It will incorporate news on a wide range of topics, which it will syndicate from various Hebrew language news sites in Israel. The Google news page, it should be stressed, is not edited by professional editors but operates on an automated system that assesses the popularity of selected web pages and their relevance to the news item in question.
Aside from the home page, Google News in Hebrew categories will include business, science, technology sports, entertainment, health and global news. The site will incorporate Hebrew language news items from 100 different sources.
Google Israel country manager Meir Brand said, “Google News exposes users to a variety of viewpoints on each news item. The service has put into practice our commitment to make information throughout the world more accessible and more useful for our users across the globe.
