Pitango again leads D&B fund rankings

According to D&B Israel, Star Ventures is second in terms of funds under management, and Markstone third.

D&B Israel has published its "Duns 100" rankings for 2006, listing venture capital and investment funds according to the amount of capital each manages.

The data show that the 26 leading funds manage an aggregate of some $11 billion, 13% more than last year. Pitango Venture Capital is again ranked first. Pitango manages a total of $1 billion, which is similar to the amount it had under management last year.

In second place, again as last year, is Star Ventures, with $991 million under management. Markstone Capital Partners Fund, which is active in private equity and manages an estimated $800 million, is ranked third. This is Markstone's first appearance in the rankings.

Markstone has pushed Apax Partners Israel, which has $740 million under management, similar to last year's total, from third place down to fourth.

First Israel Mezzanine Investors Fund (FIMI), which is active in buyouts and mezzanine investment, is ranked fifth, with $720 million under management, which compares with $550 million last year.

Sixth place goes to Jerusalem Venture Partners (JVP), with $680 million under management. In seventh place is Evergreen Partners, with $650 million under management. Next is Vertex Venture Capital, which manages $600 million. Ninth is Gemini Capital Fund Management, with $550 million under management, while in tenth place is Genesis Partners.

The Duns 100 rankings also list the funds according to the number of companies each has invested in. Star Ventures leads with 185 companies in 2005, eleven more than in 2004. Next come Vertex, with 118 companies, eight more than in 2004, and Evergreen, with 101 companies, five more than in 2004. Pitango has so far invested in 67 companies.

According to IVC Research Center, there was a fall of 8% in 2005 in the amount invested by Israeli venture capital funds and other investors in Israeli technology companies, to $1.34 billion.
