The US House of Representatives has passed a bill which will strengthen cooperation on homeland security between the US and other countries, including Israel.
The bill, which has been supported by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), was approved by the Homeland Security sub committee for emergency contingencies.
Under the terms of the bill, an international cooperation unit will be formed under the auspices of the Department for Homeland Security. It will receive funding for the joint promotion of R&D in homeland security, together with certain foreign countries considered “allies.” Israel was named as one of the countries, alongside the UK, Canada, Australia, Singapore and several others.
The proponents of the bill said it aims to promote joint research projects and business ventures as well joint military exercises with the armed forces of countries named in the bill.
