IPTV middleware applications developer Orca Interactive (AIM: ORCA) has announced that it is providing its RiGHTv IPTV middleware to one of Spain's leading telecommunications and broadband providers, Jazztel.
Orca stated that the contract was part of a multimillion euro deal to allow Jazztel to penetrate the residential broadband market. The deal was led by Spanish systems integrator Indra.
Jazztel has purchased RiGHTv licenses to support its TV subscribers with IPTV services initially offering live television over IP using MPEG-4, implemented at the end of 2005, with the addition of other services for 2006.
Orca's solution includes a Hybrid DVB-T environment that enables Jazztel to offer subscribers IPTV content side-by-side with terrestrial channels.
"Jazztel has developed an aggressive plan to penetrate the residential market and extend its network with triple play services," said Orca Interactive CEO Haggai Barel.
Jazztel's IPTV services are provided by a coalition of companies including Indra as well as Telindus for video integration; Nagra for conditional access; Kasenna for video servers; Harmonic for encoders; and ADB for set-top boxes.
Jazztel has 11.6 million lines (10.7 million with ADSL2+ technology) or 54% of total of lines in Spain.
