Port worker c'tees: Labor relations set to break down

Israeli port unions: Management violated workers rights secured in the agreements signed before the reform.

Workers committees of the Haifa, Ashdod and Eilat ports met today to discuss further action against the ports’ management. The committees claim that the management has violated workers’ rights secured in the agreements signed prior to the reform. The committees plan form a united front and will ask the Histadrut (General Federation of Labor in Israel) to examine the organizational and legal actions that are open to them.

Haifa Port workers committee chairman Dudu Perez told Globes, “I am currently concerned with maintaining industrial quiet since the situation is on the verge of total breakdown. We will not take wildcat action but we do have a clear message for the ports authority. The problems are common to all port workers alike and we have therefore decided to join forces and work together.”
