The first new appointment has been made at Hewlett-Packard Israel since the grey market scandal broke out. HP Israel PC division marketing manager Shmulik Elbaz will replace Yitzhak Benvenisti as head of the PC division.
Benvenisti, one of the key players in the scandal that rocked HP Israel three months ago, was removed from his post following accusations by Hewlett-Packard (NYSE: HPQ) that he was involved in the sale of computers on the gray market.
HP Israel managing director Gil Rosenfeld is the star in the affair. He has been in the spotlight since early January when he and other company executives were accused of sales on the gray market.
A month ago, after mutual recriminations between Hewlett-Packard and Rosenfeld died down, the parties issued a joint statement stating that Rosenfeld would resign in three months. For its part, Hewlett-Packard cleared him of the accusations reported about him.
In an announcement in late April, the company said, “After discussions between the parties, during which the managing director of HP Israel presented his position and information in his possession, Hewlett-Packard was persuaded that general manager Gil Rosenfeld bore no responsibility for parallel exports (gray market) in Israel.”
The announcement added, “At the request of Hewlett-Packard’s management, Rosenfeld agreed to delay his resignation for three months. During the interim period, he will transfer the job to his replacement, carry out a full and orderly handover, and serve as a consultant to HP Israel’s management.”
Many more appointments are expected at HP Israel to replace the 14 executives mentioned in the gray market affair.
