Sports Channel 5 wins right to Israeli football till 2009

The channel will pay $5 million for the broadcasting rights.

Sports Channel 5 has won the broadcasting rights for Israeli football through 2009, for $5 million.

Sports Channel 5 CEO Avi Bar said, “Our win emphasizes yet again the Sports Channel’s huge dominance in the Israeli communications market, and is a strategic move of the first order. We are proud to serve as the home of Israeli football.”

The broadcasting package includes the fixtures round-up program, State Cup and Toto cup games, league fixtures, as the well broadcasting rights to all Israeli football games on radio, the Internet, cellular networks and overseas broadcasts.

The Sports Channel is now expected to sell radio broadcasting rights to local radio channels or to the Israel Broadcasting Authority. Cellular broadcasting rights, which were owned by Pele-Phone Communications Ltd. until now, are also likely to be offered for sale.
