UJC contributes $11.5m for Israel home front projects

The sum includes $1.5 million raised last week by the United Jewish Communities together with synagogues throughout North America.

The United Jewish Communities-The Federations of North America will transfer $11.5 million to Israel over the next three to four weeks to finance home front projects. These are as follows:

  • $2 million a week will be allocated for summer camps run by the Jewish Agency in central Israel for children from the north.
  • $1 million a week will used to finance activities run by the American Joint Distribution Committee for disabled persons and for children and their parents in central Israel.
  • The activities over the next 3-4 weeks will total $10 million.

In addition to the special fund raising drive, the UJC last week jointly raised $1.5 million together with synagogues throughout North America, to finance the installation of air conditioning, television broadcasts and lighting in public shelters in northern Israel. The activity is being carried out through the Jewish Agency in conjunction with the IDF HomeFront Command.

The UJC represents 155 federations and 400 Jewish communities across the US and Canada. It provides assistance for immigration absorption, education and welfare projects and is the main source of finance for the activity carried out by the Jewish Agency and the Joint Distribution Committee.

UJC Israel Senior VP and director general Nachman Shai said, “Jewish communities in North America are coming forward to assist Israel in ever increasing numbers.”
