City Pass begins work on Jerusalem light railway line

The work on Herzl Boulevard will continue day and night over 16 months.

Jerusalem light railway franchisee, the City Pass consortium, has begun laying the first tracks of the railway at the Hapisga junction on Herzl Boulevard. The work includes digging a one-meter channel, and drilling holes for the placement of electricity pylons, trees and street lights.

Under City Pass’s work plan, the tracks along Herzl Blvd. as far as Hehalutz St. will be laid during September. The Jerusalem municipality has instructed that the work on Herzl Blvd. will continue day and night over 16 months.

City Pass CEO Yaakov Edri said the consortium would also lay tracks in the northern section of the line in French Hill and Pisfat Zeev this year. The central section of the line along Jaffa St. will be laid during 2007. Construction will last 30 months, and is scheduled to be completed in January 2009.
