Saifun Semiconductors Ltd. (Nasdaq:SFUN) announced today that it has entered a patent license agreement with NEC Electronics Corp. (TSE: 6723) to provide Saifun's NROM technology for embedded flash memory products. Flash technology enables the doubling of storage capacity on memory chips.
NEC is the latest in a long list of companies currently licensing Saifun NROM technology, including Qimonda AG, Macronix International (Nasdaq: MXICY; Taiwan: 2237), Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) (HKSE: 0981), Sony Corporation (NYSE: SNE; TSE: 8758), Spansion Inc. (Nasdaq: SPSN), and Tower Semiconductor (Nasdaq: TSEM; TASE: TSEM).
Saifun president Kobi Rozengarten said, “The addition of NEC Electronics to our list of world-class licensing partners further underscores the growing acceptance of NROM among leaders in the non-volatile memory field.”
NEC is one the ten largest chip manufacturers worldwide. It specializes in customized high-powered chipsets for a wide range of consumer electronic products such as FPD televisions and cellular handsets.
