IBM has developed a complete VoIP service package, based VocalTec’s Essentra BAX server.
VoIP pioneer VocalTec Communications Ltd. (Nasdaq:VOCL) and IBM Corp. (NYSE:IBM) will jointly provide a “one stop digital voice” product.
IBM has developed a complete VoIP service package, based entirely on open standards. At the core of this solution lies the application server Essentra BAX, developed by IBM Business Partner VocalTec. Essentra BAX has a three-tier architecture, consisting of a database, web and CallControl and Feature servers. It can be run on an IBM eServer x336 or IBM BladeCenter under Redhat Linux. The x336 system already supports up to 20,000 subscribers. The solution can be expanded up to two million subscribers, as the user distributes the various components on a number of X-Series servers or Blades accordingly, making it possible to manage server farms as easily as individual servers.
The system will offer customers a wider range of services.
VocalTec has a market cap of $18 million. It share has plummeted 68% since January after soaring in 2005 following the merger with TDsoft. VocalTec posted $3.9 million revenue in the first half of the year, 93% more than in the first half of last year, and its net loss rose to $3.6 million.
