Lite Touch was developed by Syneron subsidiary Light Instruments.
Syneron Medical Ltd. (Nasdaq: ELOS), a developer of aesthetic surgical lasers, today announced that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the LiteTouch dental laser developed by Syneron subsidiary, Light Instruments.
Syneron acquired 25.5% of Light Instruments in July 2005 with an initial investment of $750,000 and increased its stake to 51% during the third quarter, after exercising options for an additional $750,000. Syneron’s annual report states that it appoints three of Light Instruments’ five directors, and that it has an option to invest an additional $2 million, which will increase its stake to 67%.
The Lite Touch will be marketed in the US for a range of hard and soft tissue applications used in dentistry and oral surgery, including caries treatment and removal and root canal procedures, the excision and incision of oral soft tissue, and dental implants.
