Super-Pharm Ltd. has completed its purchase of the Ensure pharmacy chain in the Guizhou province in southern China. Ensure has 53 pharmacies with an annual turnover of $20 million. It will become part of the Super-Pharm chain, which currently operates in Israel and Poland. Super-Pharm announced its entrance into the Chinese market a year ago.
Three of the 53 pharmacies have already been converted to the Super-Pharm format, and are operating under the chain’s concept and logo. The other 50 pharmacies are small to mid-sized stores, and will be converted to the Super-Pharm format over the coming year.
Super-Pharm founder Mori Kofler visited Israel this week to attend a Weizmann Institute of Science board of trustees meeting and Super-Pharm’s annual event. He said Super-Pharm had no plans to expand in other countries, and that it would focus on deepening its presence in China and Poland over the next three years.
Super-Pharm currently has 123 pharmacies in Israel and 16 in Poland, which is slated to reach 50 by 2010. The chain has 4,500 employees.
