Iljin will use Explay’s nano-projector engine in products for the Asian and European markets.
Israeli start-up Explay Ltd. has signed a strategic agreement worth several million dollars with South Korean miniature liquid crystal display (LCD) screen manufacturer Iljin, which will use Explay’s nano-projector engine in products for the Asian and European markets. Explay will be begin marketing the pocket projector in 2007. Under the agreement, Explay will develop miniature projectors that include Injin’s optical displays.
Explay has developed proprietary technology for what it calls the world’s smallest projector, which can be integrated into cellular telephones, MP4 players and digital cameras, or as an external mobile projector. The company cited experts who said that the pocket projector market will reach $2 billion in 2010.
The Herzliya-based company currently has 22 employees. IVC Online reports that Explay’s investors include Israel-United States Binational Industrial Research and Development Foundation (BIRD-F) and the Office of the Chief Scientist.
