Israir plans all-Airbus fleet

Israir is considering buying an A330 for its New York and Bangkok routes.

Sources inform ''Globes'' that Israir Airlines and Tourism Ltd. is considering buying an Airbus A330 to operate on its routes to New York and Bangkon beginning in 2008. The airline has already bought two A320s for $150 million, which will operate on the European routes. The Airbuses will replace the Boeing 757s Israir currently leases.

This means that Israir will operate an all-Airbus fleet, rather than Boeing planes. It is financially cheaper to operate a fleet from a single manufacturer.

The Airbus A330 is the competitor of the Boeing 777. Lufthansa, Air France, Northwestern, Emirates and other airlines use the A330.

El Al Israel Airlines Ltd. (TASE: ELAL) will add two Boeing 777s to its fleet during 2007, at a cost of $270 million. The planes will operate on the Tel Aviv-New York and Los Angeles routes. This means that the competition between the airlines is heating up.
