The Zisapel brothers’ new start-up, Commex Technologies Inc. today announced that it raised $8 million in its first financing round from Genesis Partners and Vertex Venture Capital.
Commex president and CEO Tal Horowitz and Yehuda and Zohar Zisapel founded the company a year ago. The company is developing a processor to improve performance and reduce the power consumption of embedded computer systems and servers. The company’s products are intended to change the way embedded systems are designed as well as the quality of their performance. The company has already delivered preliminary versions of its product to select customers for testing.
Proceeds from the financing round will be used to complete development of second-generation processors and to speed up sales and marketing activity. Commex has ten employees, and also plans to use proceeds from the round to expand its R&D teams and marketing staff in Israel and abroad.
Horowitz said, “The level of performance, high power exploitation, and the tailoring of software are the priorities for the next-generation systems. At a time when other solutions necessitate compromises between performance and power consumption, the architecture of Commex’s solution is the only one capable of offering a chipset-based solution that can improve performance and reduce power consumption without changing the software.”
