Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is expected to ask China’s leaders not to collaborate with Iran on its nuclear program.
“IDF Radio” (Galei Zahal) reports that Prime Minister Ehud Olmert began his four-day state visit to China today. Olmert will meet Chinese President Hu Jintao and other officials. Olmert is expected to ask China’s leaders not to collaborate with Iran on its nuclear program, and will try to obtain Chinese support for tighter sanctions against Teheran.
Olmert’s visit to Beijing brings to a close a series of meetings with the leaders of the five permanent members of the US Security Council. His visit to China marks the 15th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Olmert will also try to assist Israeli high-tech and agricultural companies penetrate the Chinese market.
Olmert will today visit the Olympic Village where the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games will be held. His visit ends on Friday. Because of time pressures, he will forego visiting sites with a family connection. Olmert’s grandfather is buried in Harbin, a northern Chinese city in which many Jews found refuge in the early 20th century.
