IEC sources: The workers have plenty of ways in which to disrupt work even without the approval of today’s walk-out.
Staff at Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) have gone on total strike for two days. The walk-out went ahead after the Judges Steve Adler, Nili Arad, and Leah Glicksman of the National Labor Court granted the IEC workers’ committee and the Histadrut (General Federation of Labor in Israel) approval to take strike action against the background of the government’s proposed structural reform of the company. The two had appealed a previous decision by Judge Rami Cohen of the Haifa District Labor court barring IEC workers from going on strike.
The strike action began at 7:00am today and will continue until tomorrow at midnight, with staff working on Sabbath conditions (partial service only). IEC CEO Uri Bin Nun told “Globes” this morning that as a result, no disruptions in power supply are expected.
The government has rejected Adler’s proposal to postpone the introduction of legislation on structural reform at IEC to allow the parties to reach agreement on the issues in dispute.
IEC sources noted this morning that the workers have plenty of ways in which to disrupt work even without the approval of today’s walk-out.
