Kobi Alexander seeks judge’s removal

The Namibian High Court will hear the challenge ahead of the extradition hearing tomorrow.

The Namibian High Court will tomorrow hear the request by Comverse Technology Inc. (Pink Sheets: CMVT.PK) founder Kobi Alexander to remove the Windhoek Magistrates Court Judge Petrus Unengu hearing his extradition case to the US.

Alexander’s attorneys claim that Chief: Lower Courts Unengu is a member of Namibia’s civil service, and therefore cannot hear the case. The attorney’s claim that this is a violation of the separation of powers, because Unengu was appointed by the minister of justice, who is known to be one of the few Namibian ministers opposed to Alexander’s presence in the country and supports his extradition.

The US has indicted Alexander on 35 charges in the stock options backdating case.
