The company expects to begin connecting customers to the Internet in the first quarter of 2008.
VoIP telephony company EIM Telecom Ltd. has won a license to build and operate a telephony and communications network in Kazakhstan. The company expects to begin connecting local customers to the Internet in the first quarter, with a take-up rate of 500 customers a month during the first year of the network's operation. EIM Telecom intends to make an initial $1 million investment in the development of infrastructure, and expects the venture to generate annual revenue of $10 million.
The agreement on the network, which was signed by Kazakhstan's minister of communications, follows two years of negotiations between EIM Telecom and the Kazakh government, and the governor of Almaty. EIM Telecom also jointly owns a local telephony company called "Vulcan" together with a local operator.
EIM Telecom CEO Pini Peter said, "This is the first time that an Israeli company is overseeing the development of a multi-purpose inland and international telecommunications network in an East Asian country."
