Israel Electric Corporation wins first overseas deal

The firm hopes that the Greek project will be the first of many foreign contracts.

Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) has won its first foreign contract. The company will design a natural gas-driven power station for Metka SA (Athens: MTK), which won a contract from Greece’s Public Power Corp. (Athens: DEH) to build a power station. IEC won the NIS 10 million tender published by Metka.

IEC is participating in the construction of the 427-megawatt Aliveri natural gas-powered plant on the island of Evia for €219 million. Evia is located 75 kilometers northeast of Athens. IEC said that it would design the power station’s generating plant, automation, control and civil design systems.

Last month, “Globes” reported that IEC was in advanced negotiations to design and manage the building of power stations overseas in projects worth hundreds of millions of shekels altogether. Besides the Greek project, IEC is negotiating with France’s Alstom (Euronext: ALO; LSE:ALS) to participate in a consortium that will build six coal-fired power plants in Africa, worth several billion dollars.
