From today, students at all institutes of higher education are entitled to a 50% fare reduction on public transport, following a directive from Minister of Transport Shaul Mofaz to expand the current reductions package to public transport routes throughout the country.
The concessionary travel arrangements applied until now to just half of Israel's student population, and included only students at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Haifa University, the Technion Israel Institute of Technology, Tel Aviv University, and Bar Ilan University. The arrangement will now be extended to the 250,000 students attending other universities and colleges throughout Israel, who will also qualify for the 50% discount.
