Web games solutions company Oberon Media is to partner with News Corp (NYSE: NWS; ASX: NCP) unit MySpace to create a new gaming channel on the social networking Web site called MySpace Games. The news comes hard on the heels of the company's two recent acquisitions in Eastern Europe and the setting up of an R&D center in St. Petersburg.
For Oberon this is major agreement which could significantly increase the number of users of its games platforms, thanks to the potential exposure to the 100 million users worldwide of MySpace's music and video content.
Oberon co-founder and chairman Tal Kerret said, "We’re very excited to be partnering with MySpace to provide the best social networking casual games experience to its growing audience. We’re looking forward to responding to users’ needs and to involving the best game developers to create the greatest online entertainment experience"
MySpace will launch the new games channel in early 2008. The integration of the Oberon Media games brands in MySpace will give users free access to hundreds of casual games, play against other users and add games to their favorites list on their browser. Users will also be able to invite other surfers to play through communal chat lines.
Oberon Media already provides games to a total of 33 million users on the Microsoft, Yahoo and Comcast networks, according to data released by Comscore.
