Dell Israel revises service provisions

Dell Israel country manager Ra'anan Biber: The company will employ a Hebrew-speaking assistant at the help desk in Ireland.

Dell Inc. (Nasdaq: DELL) local affiliate Dell Israel has launched a new customer service model at a cost of $2.5 million. Under the new arrangement customers in Israel who need service and support will be able to contact the company's customer help desk in Ireland, which handles customer service and support in Europe. Dell previously provided support through its local distributors, as do most computer manufacturers with sales in Israel.

Dell Israel will continue to work with four out of the eight distributors it provided service through under the previous arrangement, who will deal with any faults that can be repaired locally. The company will also continue to operate a local spare parts warehouse through Yael Software and Systems Ltd.. The new service will initially focus on private customers and small and medium-size businesses, and will be extended to all Dell's customers later in the year. Dell Israel country manager Ra'anan Biber said the company intended to improve its customer service by employing a Hebrew speaking assistant at its help desk in Ireland.

Dell Israel also announced that it sold 98,000 computers in 2007, of which just 6,000 were laptops for home use. "The home computers segment is an undeveloped area for Dell," said Biber.
