Start-up Youfig attracts communities

The advantages of social networking have boosted YouFig.

Israeli start-up Youfig Ltd. has launched a beta version of its user-generated content platform. Within a week, 30 large and small companies and academic institutions have set up collaboration communities on the company's website.

YouFig enables enterprises and organizations to create customized collaboration communities for their employees, staff, or students. These communities are a kind of real-time workspace for shared video clips, chats, and the joint formulation of documents. The communities are based on YouFig's applications, but also on the applications of other companies that are open for all communities on the website.

YouFig co-CEOs Allon Mason and Matan Amir founded the company in early 2007. The company has three employees. Yossi Vardi invested in the company in April 2007 and another private investor invested in November. Mason and Amir declined to disclose the amount of money the company has raised or the identity of its second investor, but confirm that the sums were not large. They also said that they were in the advanced stages of raising more capital and developing new products.

Mason said, "The academic community is an obvious target audience for YouFig, because we enable students to create work groups in real time. Private companies who want to their employees to cooperate on particular content and create an in-house or out-house network of colleagues also use the services that the company offers."
