The airline will receive a special version of daily news reports within two hours of the broadcast.
El Al Israel Airlines Ltd. (TASE: ELAL) has signed cooperation agreements with Channel 2 franchisee Keshet Broadcasting Ltd. and Channel 2 News company. The airline will invest an estimated $3 million a year on in-flight entertainment content, and will offer advertisers airtime to cover the cost.
El Al is able to expand its in-flight entertainment thanks to new digital technology that it has installed. Channel 2 news will provide a 25-minute daily news magazine, while Keshet will provide four popular shows.
The daily news program will be in the form of a file distributed online to El Al stations worldwide, and which will be transferred directly to planes on outgoing and incoming flights from Ben Gurion Airport. The service will initially be provided on the Paris and New York routes. Within two hours after Channel 2 airs its main news magazine, the show will be sent to the El Al stations as a video file via communications lines and servers. El Al will convert the file and include it on the server of a plane making the return flight to Israel. A similar process will be used for the daily news magazine for flights leaving Israel.
