Half of the adult population of Israel insures their homes against fire and/or burglary, with a slightly smaller proportion also insuring against earthquakes. One third of homeowners insure against all three contingencies, and 40% have no insurance at all, according to a survey by Heker Rating Marketing Research Ltd.
Respondents were asked, "Is your apartment insured against fire, burglary, and earthquakes?" They were asked to respond to each event separately. 51% of respondents said that they were insured against fire, 49% against burglary, and 44% against earthquakes.
59% of respondents bought at least one of the types of insurance covered by the survey. 34% of respondents have insurance against all three events, 16% have insurance against two of them, 8% have insurance against just one, and 41% have no insurance.
48% of people with earthquake insurance are parents and 49% are owners of private houses. Earthquake insurance is more prevalent among those with higher education.
37% of respondents with insurance against fire, burglary, and earthquakes are parents. A breakdown by income showed that 21% had below average income, 37% were average income-earners, and 43% were above average income-earners.
63% of Jerusalem residents have no insurance against any of the three cases, 56% of low income-earners have no such insurance, as is the case among 47% of childless families.
The survey comprised of a nationwide sample of 505 persons representing the adult Jewish population.
