Orsus Solutions Israel Ltd. has won a contract estimated at more than $5 million to deploy its Situator product suite at Transnet Freight Rail, an international rail operator based in South Africa. Orsus, which was founded in 1999 by Mercury Interactive founder Aryeh Feingold, has failed to live up to the expectations for it and has been struggling until recently, despite receiving $68 million in investment since it was founded.
Orsus's managers now hope the company is on track for success and "Globes" understands it is almost profitable. The company management, headed by CEO Gil Weiser has adopted a holistic approach to optimizing situation planning, response and analysis. Automated situation management is a field that is currently enjoying growth.
The project, now underway, is connecting three nerve centers in Johannesburg, Richard’s Bay and Cape Town, with surveillance cameras, digital video recorders, access control systems, fire systems, and electrical fence sensors deployed across 34,000 kilometers of railway lines.
