C'tee passes whistleblower protection bill

The bill stipulates criminal sanctions for an employer who violates the employment terms or fires a whistleblower.

The Knesset Labor, Welfare and Health Committee today passed the whistleblower protection bill for its second and third plenum readings. The bill was submitted by MK Shelly Yacimovich (Labor) and MK Arieh Eldad (National Union-National Religious Party).

The bill forbids an employer from harming a whistleblower's terms of employment, promotion, training or courses, severance compensation and other benefits. A whistleblower may not be fired, nor can another employee who helped him.

The bill also stipulates criminal sanctions for an employer who violates the employment terms or fires a whistleblower.
