IEC and Mekorot employees slipped from the top earnings slot in May.
The average gross national salary rose to NIS 8,072 in May 2008, NIS 16 more than in April, an annualized 1.2% in March-May the Central Bureau of Statistics reported today.
In May, Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) (TASE: ELEC.B22) and Mekorot National Water Company employees lost their number one ranking as the top paid employees. Their average salary was NIS 18,559, compared with the average salary of NIS 22,373 in the financial sector. The Central Bureau of Statistics did not explain the reason for this, but it may have been because of vacation pay paid to some bank workers and bonuses on 2007 in May.
The average salary in public administration was in third place, at NIS 12,518.
There were 2.78 million Israeli salaried employees in May, after an annualized growth rate of 1.2% in trend figures in March-May.
