Online family trace co MyHeritage raises $15m

Index Ventures led the round, joined by current investor Accel Partners.

Online family trace start-up MyHeritage Ltd. has raised $15 million in its fourth financing round. Index Ventures led the round, joined by current investor Accel Partners.

MyHeritage CEO Gilad Japhet founded the company in 2003. The company put its website on air in late 2005. Registered users can establish a kind of family network using the company's proprietary Smart Matching technology to work out family relationships. The website supports 25 languages and has five million visitors a month.

MyHeritage has a competitor in the US, Geni, which has raised $11.5 million and has two million registered users, and in Israel, Famillion Ltd., which has raised $3 million.
