Online monitoring co Buzzilla: People are talking economics

The company says there has been a marked increase in the use of economic terms on the net.

The economic crisis and impending recession is also having a substantial effect on Internet dialogue when it comes to the use of buzzwords. An analysis conducted by the Internet monitoring system of Buzzilla reveals that the topics on many forums now focus on economic issues, with bloggers now taking an interest in events in the banking sector.

The Buzzilla analysis revealed that until May 2008, the number of mentions of the terms "loan" and "saving" (in Hebrew) within one week were relatively few. However, since mid-May, there has been a phenomenal rise in the number of mentions of both terms, with a clear and consistent lead for the term "saving" (620 mentions on average in August), over "loan" (300 mentions in the same month).

Among the new buzzwords now cropping up are "recession", "crisis", "provident fund", "investment houses", and "banks." The frequency of use of all these terms has risen considerably.

Buzzilla CEO Yoav Pridor said, "The fact that we're seeing such a marked increase in the number of mentions of terms relating to economic issues, shows more than anything, that this dialogue has long since extended beyond sites and forums that focus solely on economics and finance."

Buzzilla specializes in brand monitoring and analysis. The company has developed a system for real time monitoring of content, through which subscribers can follow online discussions on issues impacting on their business and marketing activity.
