Better Place signs recharging deal with real estate co

The electric car venture has also rented premises from Amot for its development center.

"Globes" has been informed that Alony Hetz Property and Investments Ltd. (TASE: ALHE) subsidiary Amot Investments Ltd. (TASE:AMOT) and Better Place will cooperate in laying a battery recharging infrastructure for electric vehicles in Amot owned locations. Under the terms of the cooperation agreement that was signed between the companies, recharging centers will be located in the 650 vehicle Amot car park in the Afek Industrial Zone in Rosh Ha'ayin.

The companies will begin with planning and works at the Afek Industrial Zone property, but the intention is to extend the recharging infrastructure to all Amot's real estate assets.

In the initial phase, several dozen recharging points will be set up in the Afek Industrial Zone, with their numbers increasing according to demand. The planned investment in setting up the infrastructure will be tailored to the space required in each of Amot's properties. Better Place will invest in the recharging points, while Amot will allocate the space.

Better Place, headed by Moshe Kaplinsky, is today developing a recharging infrastructure in Israel, which will be copied by other countries. As part of the agreement between the companies, Better Place will set up a 3,500 square meter development center in Amot's building in the Afek Industrial Zone. Amot will implement the adaptation of the building to Better Place's unique needs. Industry sources estimate that Better Place will pay Amot NIS 50 per square meter.

The Amot property, which is owned by Amot Investment and Denisra International Ltd., covers an area of 13 dunam (3.25 acres), on which three office buildings have been put up totaling 8,800 square meters with 650 underground parking places. The building is expected to be occupied in early 2009.
