WAN optimization controller developer Expand Networks reported that a New York Stock Exchange-listed REIT, Healthcare Realty Trust, has implemented Expand's solution to improve its virtual desktop infrastructure for its growing remote workforce.
Healthcare Realty Trust chose Expand’s solution to optimize and accelerate Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) over Citrix/ICA and Microsoft Terminal Services RDP protocols.
Expand said that its products beat Cisco in all features and functions tested by Healthcare Realty Trust.
Healthcare Realty Trust (NYSE: HR) is a real estate investment trust ("REIT") that owns, manages, and develops properties. The company has 35 management offices across the US, including Hawaii. WAN traffic problems grew as the company’s remote offices expanded.
“Our pain points were severe,” said Robert Dillard, Network Operations Manager for the Company. “We desperately needed a way for our MPLS traffic to be more visible and more manageable. In addition we needed a way to reduce latency for VDI for remote users."
Using Expand's solution, Dillard estimates about 800-900% better network utilization for Citrix related applications, and the response times for Citrix and RDP being 5 to 10 times faster.
“The Age of Virtualization is upon us,” said Expand CTO Efi Gatmor. “However", he added, "with all the many conveniences virtualization offers enterprises and endusers, many are still challenged by WAN traffic challenges and being able to fully optimize their virtual infrastructure investments.
In August, Expand announced an investment of $8.5 million by Intel Capital and other investors.
