Desalination plant bidders pass preliminary stage

All four consortia can bid in the Soreq desalination tender.

The inter-ministerial tenders committee for desalination has notified all four entants in the NIS 1.5-2 billion BOT tender to build and operate the Soreq desalination plant that they passed the prequalification stage and that they will be invited to submit bids. The Soreq desalination plant will have a 100 million cubic meter a year capacity, making it one of the world's largest desalination plants. The next stage of the tender is due to be published in two weeks.

The four consortia are as follows:

Israel currently has a 100-million cubic meter desalination plant at Ashkelon, owned by IDE and Veolia Water SA consortium VID, and a 30-million desalination plant at Palmachim, owned by GES. The Hadera 100-million cubic meter desalination plant, owned in equal shares by the Housing and Construction and IDE consortium, H2ID, is still under construction. In addition, Mekorot National Water Company owns the Sabcha brackish water and seawater desalination plant in Eilat.
