Targus implements Expand WAN optimization solution

Targus's global growth presented WAN-related communications challenges.

WAN optimization accelerator developer Expand Networks technology has been implemented by mobile computing accessories firm Targus

Targus's global growth presented WAN-related communications challenges, particularly related to its MPLS network.

As traffic increased over the WAN, its network slowed due to bandwidth and latency problems, as well as a lack of traffic prioritization.

“Expand not only addressed our bandwidth and latency difficulties, they have also made our network traffic much more efficient,” said Jim Lasher, Operations Manager for Targus. Lasher added that Expland's traffic discovery ability helped Targus determine what type of traffic was flowing across the network. Lasher said, "With this information we were able to configure the QoS parameters on our MPLS network to prioritize our most meaningful traffic."

The implementation of Expand Networks integrated technology doubled network capacity enabling Targus to share more bandwidth with its smaller remote offices that helped stretch its IT budget.

In August, Expand raised $8.5 million in a funding round led by Intel Capital, and included existing investors. Expand's investors include Discount Investment Corporation (TASE: DISI), the Tamir Fishman Venture II (TASE: TFVC) fund, Challenge Fund Etgar II. It has also received venture lending capital from Plenus.
