NIS 500m tender published for Road 79 upgrade

Road 79 runs from Kiryat Bialik to near Nazareth in the lower Galilee.

Israel National Roads Company Ltd. has published a NIS 500 million tender for upgrading an 8.5 kilometer section of Road 79 in the lower Galilee. The project includes building a dual carriageway (two lanes in each direction with a divider) and four new interchanges on the road.

Roads Company general manager Alex Wiznitser said, "Road 79 will become a dual-carriageway with four interchanges, which will improve the safety of users and ease traffic in the north."

The 27-kilometer Road 79 is one of the lower Galilee's main arteries, and is currently characterized by very heavy traffic during most of the day. The road runs between Kiryat Bialik in the west and Mashad in the east, a town north of Nazareth. The current tender involves the section of the road between Somekh Junction and Hamovil Junction.
