The Arena sports center will include an Olympic-sized pool, a tennis center, spa, and other facilities.
The Jerusalem Municipality has raised NIS 240 million to complete construction of the Arena sports center, which will serve as the home court for the Hapoel Jerusalem Basketball Club. Mifal Hapayis Israel National Lottery will provide NIS 200 million for the project, Israel Sports Betting Board (Toto) will provide NIS 20 million, and the municipality will provide the balance from its own budget.
Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat unveiled the plan at a press conference. The Arena sports center, which will be located near the city's Teddy football stadium (named for former Mayor Teddy Kollek), will include an Olympic-sized pool, a tennis center, spa, and other facilities. It will take 36 months to build, and will initially have 5,600 seats, which will be later increased to 10,000.
